RELIEVED striker Paul Heffernan saluted team-mate Dean Shiels for bagging the goal which sealed Kilmarnock a place in the Scottish Communities League Cup final, after the goalscorer had left his sick bed to play in Saturday's semi-final against Ayr United.

And he paid a glowing tribute to the manager's son who showed great loyalty to the shirt by recently opting to stay at Rugby Park for less money than he would have secured in England.

Attacking midfielder Shiels played despite being confined to bed with a temperature for most of the week after suffering swollen glands and only managing short stints at training on Thursday and Friday but was the hero in the nerve-jangling 1-0 extra-time victory.
