Poor North Ayrshire representation in top schools athletics event.
SOME of North Ayrshire AC athletes were competing at the Scottish Schools Indoor Track & Field Championships at on Kelvin Hall, Glasgow on February 9. There were a number of athletes from North Ayrshire missing due to some schools not bothering to enter athletes into this event. A number of Athletes from Ardrossan Academy missed out due to a lack of support from PE teachers at that school.
Athletes competing from the club were Connie Frearson, Sandros Paparakis, Jenna Gillespie, Ellie Fulton and Molly Mooney all St Matthew's Academy . Plus James Gaffney Belmont Academy Ayr. Again, it was disappointing that many individuals from North Ayrshire schools were not permitted to enter the competition due to lack of effort from their schools.
Connie Frearson missed out on the final finishing third in the 60m heat in 8.73s In the 200m Connie finished 5th in 29.43s. Molly Mooney continues to improve her times, running 8.90s for the 60m finishing 3rd just missing out on qualifying for the semi's. Molly ran 30.70s finishing 5th in the 200m heat.
Jenna Gillespie pulled out of the 200m due to an injury but managed to throw the shot 8.06m finishing 9th . Ellie Fulton ran 11.35 for the 60m. and jumped 3.68m in the long jump.
Throwers Sandros Paparakis and talented athlete James Gaffney were disappointed by their throws however did well in a high quality field of throwers. And will look to improve as they head into the summer track & field season. Sandros did not realise at the time but threw a new PB with 10.62m and James got a distance of 13.13m. Over a metre up on last year.
